The main expected result of the project is the realization of a series of co-ordinated modules.
The LOAD FORECASTING module forecasts the demand for electricity, heat, and methane. The ENERGY GENERATION AND DISTRIBUTION module will define an energy production distribution strategy that uses consumer demand as a reference point.
The aims of the module are the production and distribution of three types of energy at minimum cost, and keeping to within the environmental impact limits set for the production and distribution systems. The TECHNICAL/TARIFF DATABASE MANAGEMENT module will acquire current or proposed tariff structures, and any available technology for containing energy demand, and make them available within the
information environment. The CO-ORDINATION module has the task of interfacing in a user-friendly manner with the energy company decision-making structure, so as to enable the energy company management to plan production and distribution; and to plan any investments in systems and infrastructure.
GENERAL ARCHITECTURE OF THE SYSTEM
The system will consist of a series of co-ordinated modules.
The first of these modules (LOAD FORECASTING) forecasts the demand for electricity, heat, and methane. The module will carry out this task both when there are noparticular incentives, and when any incentive policies than may be proposed at energy company level are in operation. The forecasts will treat the main areas of use separately (residential,
services, and industry).
The second module (ENERGY GENERATION AND DISTRIBUTION) will define an energy production distribution strategy that uses consumer demand as a reference point.
The aims of the module are the production and distribution of three types of energy at minimum cost, and keeping to within the environmental impact limits set for the production and distribution systems. The module must take all technical aspects relating to the operation of each of the systems into account and in assessing profits and costs, should take account of current legally set tariff levels and the possibility of purchasing / selling energy to the national grid, and in the case of hot water for central heating, energy company set tariff levels.
The third module (TECHNICAL/TARIFF DATABASE MANAGEMENT) will acquire current or proposed tariff structures, and any available technology for containing energy demand, and make them available within the information environment. The module is thus mainly concerned with managing a legislative data base and technology.
The last module (CO-ORDINATION) is the coordinating module. The module has the task of interfacing in a user-friendly manner with the energy company decision-making structure, so as to enable the energy company management to plan production and distribution, and to plan any investments in systems and infrastructure. Once this information has been acquired, the module has the task of correctly activating and
interconnecting each of the three above modules so that results obtained in an operationally adequate manner are made available.
Here follows a more detailed look at each of these modules. Figure 1 shows a diagram of the proposed architecture.
