PROTOTYPE AERONAUTICAL TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK

Cel

The purpose of PROATN is to build a prototype of the ATN to conform to internationally recognized standards, in close cooperation with the EOLIA project. The prototype will contribute to the validation of the ATN and the CNS/ATM concept, and its benefits will be demonstrated in experimental aircraft and at the 1999 Paris Air Show. Features will include ground and airborne systems, and different kinds of private and public sub-networks. The prototype will be deployed at eight ground sites, and integrated into grounded, experimental and airline aircraft.

The objective of the ProATN project is to build a prototype of the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN), as being standardized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and Guidance Material, in close cooperation with the ATM application development within the EOLIA project (TR1021) of the Telematics Application Programme.

The prototype will be used to contribute to the validation of the ATN and the ICAO CNS/ATM (Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management) concept, and will be used to demonstrate the capabilities and benefits of the ATN to its user community, both by means of demonstrations with the experimental aircraft at the various sites, as well as by means of a demonstration at the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget in 1999 with an Airbus aircraft

The ProATN prototype will consist of ground systems, airborne systems, various private and public ground subnetworks, air-ground subnetworks, and as a supplement, a Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) Mode S air-ground subnetwork, a Single and Multi-Domain Network Management Stations, and a high performance Backbone.

The prototype will consist of both pre-operational, pre-industrial, certifiable and experimental systems.

After the ProATN development, the ProATN prototype will be integrated with the applications as developed in the TR1021 EOLIA project.

Subsequently, the ProATN prototype will be deployed at 8 ground sites, and will be integrated into grounded, experimental and airline aircraft.
