Prevention and minimization of waste
The European Commission, DG XI, has published an invitation to tender concerning a study relating to the prevention and minimization of waste in the EU. The aims of the study will include: - To identify and analyse the measures taken by the various national actors to minimize the quantity and reduce the hazardousness of industrial waste; - To identify and analyse, in the municipal waste sector, best practices in waste prevention; - To identify horizontal measures taken with the aim of eliminating hazardous substances from the waste stream; - To measure and analyse, using several successful concrete examples, the environmental and economic gains connected to the prevention of waste in the context of the European Community waste management policy. The study should be completed within nine months, and cover all the Member States of the EU.
