Study on the practical application of EU legislation on general product safety
The European Commission, DG XXIV, has published a call for tender for a study on the practical application of Directive 92/59/EEC on General Product Safety. This study will be limited to non-food products and will have the following objectives: - To obtain as complete an overview as possible of how Directive 92/59/EEC is applied and operates in every Member State; - To identify the major shortcomings and problems found by Member States in order to promote the health and safety of consumers when implementing the obligations of the Directive, such as incorrect implementation of the legislation or lack of appropriate resources or legal powers; - To present recommendations for improvements in relation to the scope, procedures and requirements of the Directive; - To present recommendations for any other action needed for the effective operation of the Directive in order to achieve a high level of protection of the health and safety of consumers. An interim report should be submitted within five months, and the final report of the study should be submitted within nine months.
