The national administrations of Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Portugal and Sweden are collaborating, with the technical support of the Joint Research Centre's Space Applications Institute and will shortly announce a call for tenders for remote sensing control of arable and forage land, area based subsidies. Within the framework of the integrated administration and control system for certain Community aid schemes, the Commission has authorised the use of remote sensing to check area aid applications for cultivated and forage areas. The Member States will therefore shortly call for contractors to verify, by remote sensing, the area aid applications submitted each year by farmers. Depending on the Member State, satellite images and/or aerial photographs will be used. The selected contractor will receive from the Member State a sample of dossiers to control. The contractor must compare these applications with the images or aerial photographs and deliver the results per dossier to the competent authority in the Member State. Satellite images will be acquired by the Commission and delivered to the contractors. For further information, please refer to the prior information announcement published in the Official Journal of the European Communities at the reference below.
