Guide to EU transport law and policy
The 'Guide to Transport Acquis' is an informal document on certain aspects of Community transport law prepared by the staff of the European Commission's Transport Directorate-General. The guide provides a detailed overview of current EU transport legislation as of 1 January 1999. Following a brief description of each transport sector, the relevant legal instruments are presented, together with subsequent amendments and modifications, giving detailed information on their objectives, scope and key elements. Some relevant transport statistics are also attached. The guide was prepared in the context of the accession negotiations and pre-accession activities, and is intended to improve understanding of the transport acquis by the public authorities of the candidate countries. It will also be a useful tool for the transport industry and for anyone interested in EU transport policy and legislation. The guide is available in English, French and German and will soon be available in all the languages of the Central and Eastern European candidate countries. Full texts of legislation are available in the relevant EU databases (Eur-Lex, Celex). The guide will be updated regularly.
