Public contributes to the debate on a European Research Space
The public's comments on Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin's communication on a 'European Research Area have been posted on the Research Directorate-General's webservice at: URL: http://europa.eu.int/comm/research/area.html(odnośnik otworzy się w nowym oknie) The Commission hopes the publication of the comments will help to fuel the continuing public debate, kicked off by the European Commissioner for Research earlier this year. His Communication on a 'European Research Space' outlines plans to exploit fully the potential of science and technology in the Member States through increased collaboration. The Communication is available on-line at: URL: http://europa.eu.int/comm/research/area.html(odnośnik otworzy się w nowym oknie) and the Commission is inviting feedback from the public. Mr Busquin has reacted positively to the comments so far: 'When I launched the debate on the European Research Area in January 2000 with the publication of the Commission's Communication, I was conscious of the very diverse range of interests at stake, and the importance of a direct channel of communication with individuals from across Europe who have ideas to contribute. I am very encouraged by the positive - and at times challenging - responses I have received. 'I hope that this résumé, along with a brief, preliminary commentary on the main points raised, will not only demonstrate the quality of the contributions received so far, but also act as an incentive for others to participate in the debate.'
