INTAS - call for experts
INTAS, the International association for the promotion of cooperation with scientists from the new independent states of the former Soviet Union, has made a call for experts to assess the call for proposals it shall be receiving later this year. The association, a non-profit organisation which derives the majority of its funding from the Fifth Framework programme (FP5), wants to enlarge its database of scientists who can provide external evaluation of the proposals submitted to INTAS. The move follows on from the success of the system introduced for the 1999 calls for proposals. No paperwork (as the proposals were submitted electronically) and quicker turnaround time showed the success of the system. Almost simultaneous evaluation of the electronically submitted proposals was possible by the experts, who did not need to be on-site. After the close of the call for proposals (in September), a panel of three experts will be chosen from the database within days. These can give a quick and remote analysis of the proposals that have been allocated to them and then are not required again until the following year. The electronic system's popularity was proved by some 80% of experts using it last year. For further information, please contact: Tel: +32-2-5490140; Fax +32-2-5490156 E-mail: chellingsworth@intas.be
