Emissions from spark-ignition engines intended for use in non-road mobile machinery
The Environment Directorate-General has issued an invitation to tender for a study on the emissions from spark-ignition engines intended for use in non-road mobile machinery. The study should cover two aspects: - the problem of emissions of particulate matter from spark-ignition engines, especially two-stroke engines, and available technology to reduce those emissions; - the development of an 'averaging, banking and trading system' suitable for EU conditions in order to improve the alignment between US and EU legislation. The study should take account of Community legislation. Directive 97/68/EC on emissions from engines intended for use in non-road mobile machinery covers compression-ignition engines, but will be shortly extended to cover spark-ignition engines. The development of corresponding legislation in the USA and the studies carried out when preparing and implementing that legislation should be taken into account when carrying out the studies.
