The Joint Research Centre's Institute for health and consumer protection, ECVAM unit for validation of biomedical testing methods, has announced prior information of a forthcoming call for tenders for 14 studies on the following subjects:

1. pre-validation of a test or tests for the biocompatibility of dental filling materials;

2. pre-validation of a test or tests for pro-inflammation effects in respiratory cells;

3. pre-validation of the Neutral Red release test;

4. pre-validation of the EpiDerm phototoxicity test;

5. Pre-validation of an in-vitro test or tests for the induction of drug metabolism in human hepatocytes;

6. Pre-validation of a stem cell assay for predicting delayed haematotoxic effects resulting from chronic or multiple exposure;

7. Refinement of automatic measurement of colonies in clonogenic assays;

8. A comparison of human and in vitro skin data;

9. Pre-validation of a cytotoxicity test for a human acute systemic toxicity;

10. skin irritation testing with non-invasive technology and human volunteers;

11. pre-validation of an in vitro test or tests for the toxicity of metal-based alloys;

12. preparation of a European atlas of human and in vitro data on metal toxicity;

13. system development for OLIVE (GLP on-line in vitro toxicology ECVAM);

14. system auditing for OLIVE (LP on-line in vitro toxicology ECVAM).

Some 1,300,000 to 2.000,000 euro will be available to fund the 14 services.
