Structural funds bring new technology to education in Greece
Greece is to receive 1.9 billion euro from the European Commission's structural funds to improve its education system. The agreement, signed on 29 March by Anna Diamantopoulou, European Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs, covers the period 2000 until 2006. The programme aims to upgrade existing technological infrastructure and introduce new technologies at all educational levels and introduce alternative forms of lifelong learning, such as a second chance school at secondary level, an institute for lifelong learning at tertiary level, adopting e-learning and introducing it into all forms of education and training. The programme also aims to sensitise young people to environmental, health, gender and similar problems and combat school failure and drop out.
