Intelligent shipping information goes on-line
Maritime research, technology and development projects funded by the European Commission's Information Society Technologies Programme (IST), have a new home on-line. ISIS (Information society for intelligent shipping) is funded under the first Key Action of the IST programme's waterborne transport projects initiative. The main objective of the ISIS web site is to provide a single point of access for information related to research and development activities within the information society maritime transport domain. In addition it provides space and interactive tools for setting-up and running web-based virtual meetings and conferences. The coordinated activities of the ISIS project cluster are supported by the two thematic network IST projects MISTIC and SWAN. Currently the site includes: summaries and (if available) web links for projects funded by the IST programme; a document repository that includes public reports of the waterborne transport projects of the Telematics Applications Programme; web links and an initial set of public documents from international bodies and industrial forums involved in maritime standardisation; announcement and registration information of the first event organised by the SWAN project; the ISIS work-groups and discussion forums on issues relevant to the state of art and practice in systems and services such as maritime communications, navigation, decision support, integrated ship control, system architecture, port management, and traffic management. Information on important and relevant events and meetings will also be included on the site.
