Commission receives hundreds of proposals for the Quality of Life programme
Hundreds of proposals flooded into the Research Directorate-General at the beginning of the year to meet the six deadlines set for submissions under the Quality of Life and management of living resources theme of the Fifth framework programme. Some 110 proposals were submitted for Accompanying measures, 48 for socio-economic and bioethical studies, 21 for research infrastructures, 96 for the establishment of Marie Curie training hosts sites (60 in industry, 36 for PhDs), and for SME measures (74 for Exploratory awards and 54 for CRAFT). In addition, 71 expressions of interest for topics in functional genomics relating to human health were received, reports the Quality of Life bulletin. The next deadline for proposals for RTD actions under the Quality of life programme is 18 October 2001. Ideas are sought for actions relating to control of infectious diseases, the cell factory, sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry and RTD activities of a generic nature as well as genomics and human health integrated projects and support for research infrastructures, (the third call for proposals was published on 15 November 2000 (OJ No C 324.
