Commission calls for applicants for Archimedes prize
The European Commission has announced a call for proposals for indirect RTD actions under the specific programme for research, technological development and demonstration on 'improving the human research potential and the socio-economic knowledge base.' Those eligible to participate in indirect RTD actions under the specific programme are hereby invited to submit proposals that address the following parts of the work programme: distinctions for high level research work - Archimedes prize. Applicants for the Archimedes prize should be undergraduate students of European higher education institutions who have developed original scientific ideas or concepts in areas relevant to the advancement of European science. Candidates must be: - Member State or Associated State nationals, or have resided in the EU for at least the last five years; - Registered in a tertiary education institution in a Member State or Associated State; - Following a university (or equivalent higher education institution) course leading to a first degree or equivalent, which qualifies the holder to embark directly on a doctorate or equivalent degree. For this call, the scientific and technological achievements must be relevant to one of the following six themes: - structure and function in macromolecules - water resources modelling and management - societal and economic implications of demographic change in the EU - energy devices - aquaculture - implications of tourism on natural and human ecosystems. The Archimedes prize will be financed as an accompanying measure.
