One tenth of the world uses the Internet, claims study
The Internet is now used by around one tenth of the world's population, with Europe leading the way, according to new research by NUA Surveys. The world's online population reached 605.6 million during September of this year, up from 580.7 million in May. The figures show that while the Internet is still expanding in Europe and South East Asia, North American penetration seems to have reached saturation point, having stagnated for some time now. Europe has the largest online population, with 190.91 million users, while the strong growth in South East Asia saw the region achieve 187.24 million users, overtaking the USA for the first time. America currently has 182.67 million users, accounting for 30.1 per cent of the world's users, with the Asia Pacific region making up 30.9 per cent, and Europe 31.5 per cent. At the bottom of the list comes Latin America, with five per cent, and Africa and the Middle East with one per cent each.
