CORDIS, the European Commission's Research and Development Information Service, has revamped its site dedicated to national and European funded research in Finland, first launched in May 1999. The new service offers timely coverage of Finnish innovation related news and policy developments. Supported by the National Technology Agency (TEKES) and the Academy of Finland, it introduces the research sector's main actors, infrastructures and activities, including programmes open to foreign entities, examples of innovation and contacts. The service highlights the successes of Finnish research and the strengths of Europe's leading information society. Users will discover that 70 per cent of research is carried out by private organizations and that 10 per cent of European biotech companies are in Finland. The service also offers links to leading organisations. Additional information is available on Finland's participation in the Fourth and Fifth Framework Programmes. The service offers easy access to descriptions of research projects and results as well as key figures. Potential participants in the Sixth Framework Programme can search and easily identify experienced partners, namely small and medium sized enterprises, or relevant contacts. The site will prove useful for local stakeholders and innovation actors seeking transferable technology and counterparts in Finland. It provides a comprehensive picture of the best assets of Finnish companies, demonstrates that a functional innovation environment is one of the Finnish research priorities, and supports the completion of the European Research Area (ERA).
