CORDIS offers revamped gateway to the European Research Area
CORDIS, the European Commission's Research and Development Information Service, is offering an improved gateway to all information related to the European Research Area (ERA). The new service provides a comprehensive overview of the concept, activities and further initiatives. A wealth of communications, reports and stakeholder position papers provide a clear picture of this new reference framework for European research, building upon the concept of an area for the free movement of knowledge, researchers and technology, as well as improved coordination of national research policies. Users have easy access to more than 200 key documents illustrating the lively debate initiated in January 2000. Background information and links are provided to aid understanding of the various activities and the most recent debates on, for example, the role of universities, the idea of a European Research Council and broader goals set out by the European Council in Lisbon (2000) and Barcelona (2002). In addition, the service offers quick access to information and the background reports which led to the adoption of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). The service offers valuable information support to all stakeholders willing to participate in the creation of an internal market for research and contribute to the current debates regarding the achievement of a knowledge-based economy.
