INTAS signs scientific cooperation agreement with Tajikistan
INTAS, the international association for the promotion of cooperation with scientists from the New Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union, has signed an agreement on scientific cooperation with the Republic of Tajikistan. INTAS is an independent international association formed by the European Community, the European Union's Member States and like-minded countries wishing to preserve and promote the scientific potential of the NIS countries through East-West Scientific cooperation. INTAS receives funding under the 'international cooperation' activity of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). The agreement will facilitate the participation of Tajikistan scientists in INTAS programmes. It contains three main priorities: explicit tax and social security exemptions for INTAS grantees in the Republic of Tajikistan; duty-free import of scientific equipment into Tajikistan, purchased through and INTAS grant; and the appointment of an official contact person who will ensure the correct implementation of the agreement and who will liaise with the association. The agreement is similar to contracts already signed with nine other NIS countries.
