1993 Annual Report of JRC's Environment Institute
The Joint Research Centre's Environment Institute at Ispra has published its Annual Report for 1993. The report summarizes the major achievements of the projects developed in 1993 as part of the three-year multiannual research programme of the Joint Research Centre (1992-1994). The Institute's efforts were essentially addressed to the implementation of the specific programme on "Environmental protection", which focused on the issues of global change and environmental chemicals. In particular, the areas concerned were air and water pollution, indoor air pollution, chemical waste, food and drug analysis, and the evaluation of chemicals. The report also refers to the progress accomplished in the activities providing scientific and technical support to DG XI (Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil Protection) of the Commission. These concerned activities in the fields of chemicals, air and water pollution, chemical waste, radioactive environmental monitoring, and the validation of toxicity testing methods. Finally, the report summarizes the Institute's achievements in the framework of exploratory research, its participation in EUREKA projects, and its contractual work for third parties.
