Magnetic molecular materials - An HCM research network
A European network on "Magnetic molecular materials" was established in May 1993 within the Community's Human Capital and Mobility (HCM) programme. A report describing the research performed in the laboratories of the network has recently been published by the European Commission. The report provides readers with a background to the recent developments in molecular magnetism, stressing in particular the relevance of European science in this important scientific area. The research undertaken by the network partners comprises the rush to room temperature, spin crossover systems and storage information and the nanoscale magnetic particles. As many as 700 networks were awarded Community support within the framework of the HCM programme. The research teams were chosen on the basis of the originality of their approach, their scientific excellence and the research value of their proposals. The work of the HCM programme has been continued in the Community's Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) programme (1994-1998).
