TELSCAN - Transport for the elderly and disabled
TELSCAN (Telematics standards and coordination of ATT systems in relation to elderly and disabled drivers) is a project financed by the European Commission (DG XIII) within the framework of the "Telematics for Transport" sector of the Telematics Applications programme. In TELSCAN, specialized institutes, universities and companies from the Member States of the European Union have joined forces to help projects in the "Telematics for Transport" sector to make adequate provision for the needs of the elderly and disabled, notably through the establishment of standards and design guidelines. Services offered by TELSCAN include: - Expert consultation on elderly and disabled travellers issues to all Transport Telematics projects requiring it; - Testing of a limited number of systems jointly with other projects or on generic issues defined by TELSCAN; - Collaborative evaluation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) by elderly and disabled travellers in city/transport telematics projects; - TELSCAN "Helpline" for Transport Telematics projects; - TELSCAN Newsletter; - TELSCAN database/handbook. The TELSCAN project published the first edition of the TELSCAN Newsletter in November 1996. This publication (also available in tape version for organizations and experts) is intended to offer an open forum for the presentation of the achievements of the project and the dissemination of relevant news. The project also maintains a site on the World Wide Web providing access to TELSCAN information and services.
