Information and awareness of environmental problems
The European Commission, DG XI, has published a call for proposals for general measures to inform and increase awareness of environmental problems. The call falls within the framework of the Fifth Environmental Action Programme (Towards Sustainable Development). Priority will be given to projects dealing with the following topics: - Implementation of environmental legislation; - Integration of environmental questions in other sectors; - Economic/fiscal instruments and employment; - Water; - Waste; - Noise; - Nature conservation; - International aspects of Community environmental policy. Projects may include conferences, seminars, training courses, codes of good practice, pilot projects, audiovisual projects to produce documentaries for European audiences and other similar initiatives. In principle, they should involve partners from at least three Member States of the EU, and should not last for more than 18 months. Projects should demonstrate multiplier effects and show effective measures for the wide dissemination of their results. Community funding may not exceed 50% of the total budget for the project. Funding may not be used for commercial projects, nor for projects already under way. Parties may submit proposals for several projects, but each must be presented separately.
