Service activities guide for governmental and end users
The ongoing process of service activities in industry enterprises is one of the most significant developments in urban economies in recent decades. Therefore the COMET project has set out to illustrate that competitiveness of inner cities is linked to their multifunctional structure. Meaning that in the past, inner cities were influenced because of a major tide of the service sector relocating to suburban areas. This has resulted in the process of mass concentrations showing up in the outskirts of urban areas rather than at their core. New tools for guiding important development processes have been discovered. This was achieved through analysis and comparison of case studies and the development of scenarios for multifunctional structures in agglomeration areas and the creation of jobs in competitive service branches. During the course of collecting such information, it was found that the language of scientists differs from the language of governmental and end users. Furthermore a difference exits between the scope of their research interests. Thus, a Handbook that provides a survey of the results of the COMET project was designed. The Handbook is easy to read and includes and overview of the large-scale projects and the results of their comparisons, business enquiries and classification of centres located in the agglomeration areas. The Handbook also offers a CD-ROM that includes the final reports of the project and thematic maps.
