Fighting the digital divide
The key objective of the MELISA project involves the development of appropriate infrastructure to host broadcasting of sports events over wireless and digital television networks. At the same time valuable, revenue building services are also provided addressing the needs of sports viewers and sponsors. Thereby, services for sophisticated presentation of complex interactive real-time video content, advertisements and an innovative real-time betting engine are supported. Using the next generation wireless technology for m-commerce the project results meet market needs for more personalised and flexible services for European citizens. The project implements different application scenarios. These include provision of enhanced content and statistics, dynamic interactive content and advertisements as well as real time wager applications. Special attention was paid to user ergonomics and cognitive principles of human-computer interaction in the development of the interactive interface. The developed system is fully interoperable and integrated and allows interaction between all involved actors in the sports publishing sector. It includes authoring tools that bridge the gap of sports information provision between TV mobile and Internet appliances. Additionally, multimedia databases including sports related advertisement and statistics are able to be combined with real-time data generated during the sports events. The newly developed business models offer options for context sensitive dynamic advertising, real-time betting and e-commerce applications for sports sponsors.
