Learning more about smart textiles
Smart textile materials can be problematic in terms of their design, production technologies applications and testing. In order to deal with these issues, CoE ITSAPT, an EC-funded project has tackled the creation, co-ordination and enlargement of national and European network of experts and research establishments. Data, research, application notes and commercial activities in the realm of intelligent and smart textiles were developed. Specifically targeted was their use in industry, environment protection, human safety, health service, care of the mentally and physically challenged and every day life. Following this was the transfer of research results so that they can be put into practice in the industry. Furthermore the communication exchange between research and industry was vital. In light of this, information was prepared for publication and for educational curricula for teaching in universities in the EU. As a result, lecture courses for industry as well as summer school lectures were conducted. Some of the themes include intelligent / smart textile materials, textile material science, technology development, production process control and quality control.
