Advanced film sequencing

CinePaint, an open source tool used for image retouching and digital composition for film-quality images has developed a new version. It has an enhanced ability for spatial and colour primary depth film-resolutions and sequencing.

Artists' technological needs are often misunderstood. In light of this, the CUSTODIEV (Creative use of style & technology for ordering the design and interactive elaboration of the vision) project has developed artists shaping technology with creative pull. It aims at novel means of creating animation, narrative drawing and performance-driven art. The features of CinePaint include a published plug-in interface (API), an open source community of developers and several users in the professional film industry in Europe and in the USA. Supporting film resolution affects all of the functions of CinePaint's new version. It can be applied to images and sequencing and can deeply affect functionality outcome. Unlike the original CinePaint, which did not allow for much sequencing, the new Cinepaint adopts a spreadsheet model. This is best for short sequences or for longer single sequences. The replay facility it requires has been applied. CinePaint's newly added function is specifically designated to sustain its use in the animation industry at the previewing stage. It can also be used in conjunction with CreaToon, and for assisting film-quality composition and other time-consuming functions for CreaToon. Advanced development of a client-server connection with CinePaint and between CinePaint and CreaToon may help with film effects and previsualisation, not only in animation, but also on a broader level.
