Degradation and conservation of granitic rocks in monuments
The European Commission, DG XII, has published a report on degradation and conservation of granitic rocks in monuments, as part of a series on the protection and conservation of Europe's cultural heritage, published under the Environment and Climate research programme. The report contains the proceedings of a workshop held in the granitic city of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in November 1994 at which the results of two projects funded by the Commission were presented: - Conservation of granitic rocks with application to the megalithic monuments; - Granitic materials and historic monuments: study of the factors and mechanisms of weathering and application to historical heritage conservation. Following the presentation of these projects, the conference aimed to provide a forum for a review of the state-of-the-art in the EU and to promote mutual exchanges of information on common strategies for future research in the area of granite monuments conservation.
