BIOTECH programme - Fourth call for proposals
The European Commission, DG XII, has published the fourth call for proposals under the specific RTD programme in the field of Biotechnology (BIOTECH). Eligible entities are invited to submit proposals for RTD actions in the following areas of the BIOTECH Work Programme: I. OBJECTIVES REQUIRING CONCENTRATION OF MEANS: A. Shared cost actions resulting from preparatory awards to allow the participation of SMEs, and shared cost demonstration projects: - Area 1: Cell factories; - Area 2: Genome analysis; - Area 3: Plant and animal biotechnology; - Area 4: Cell communication in neurosciences; B. Other shared cost projects: - Area 1: Cell factories; - Area 2: Genome analysis: . 2.1 Sequencing; - Area 3: Plant and animal biotechnology: . 3.2 Animal physiopathology: . 3.2.1 Genome mapping and improvement of farm animal selection; . 3.2.2 Animal models; - Area 4: Cell communication in neurosciences: . 4.1 Development of the nervous system; . 4.2 Regeneration of the nervous system; . 4.3 Degeneration and apoptosis in the nervous system; . 4.4 Management of information by the nervous cells; . 4.5 Cell to cell communication in the nervous system; II. OBJECTIVES COVERED BY CONCERTATION: A. Shared cost actions and concerted actions resulting from preparatory awards to allow the participation of SMEs, and shared cost demonstration projects: - Area 5: Immunology and transdisease vaccinology; - Area 6: Structural biology; - Area 7: Pre-normative research, biodiversity and social acceptance; - Area 8: Infrastructures; B. Concerted actions desired and other shared cost projects: - Area 5: Immunology and transdisease vaccinology: . 5.2 Generic vaccinology; - Area 6: Structural biology: . 6.1 Structure/function relationships; - Area 7: Pre-normative research, biodiversity and social acceptance: . 7.2 Pre-normative research: biosafety; . 7.4 Biodiversity; - Area 8: Infrastructures; III. OBJECTIVES TREATED BY MEANS OF HORIZONTAL ACTIVITIES: - Demonstration activities: shared-cost actions (demonstration projects in the eight areas above). - Biotechnology and society: ethical, legal and social aspects, by means of concerted actions, RTD projects and scientific studies; - Biotechnology and society: public perception, by means of preparatory, accompanying and support measures (scientific studies) and concerted actions; - Socio-economic impact: by means of preparatory, accompanying and support measures (scientific studies). Proposers should ensure that they obtain a copy of the Work Programme, Information Package and the official application form from the Commission before completing proposals. In view of the selection criteria laid down in the Work Programme, special attention will be paid to the following aspects of the proposal: the plan for use of the research results, and a declaration of ethics as regards the social, economic and ecological impact. Community financial support for participants from Central and Eastern European countries may be available. In addition, support may also be available for participants from the former Soviet Union and developing countries for projects in Area 7 of the Work Programme.
