European Alliance of Genetic Support Groups conference on genetic information
The conference aims to examine the various factors that determine whether or not scientific advances are translated into improved understanding and better services for those affected by, or at risk from, genetic disorders. The role of patients and patient support groups in ensuring that the potential of genetics for improving human health is realised will also be addressed.
Specific topics to be discussed include:
- Political campaigning by patient support groups;
- Empowerment of patient groups through information and communication;
- Community genetics and the role of the general practitioner;
- Public understanding of genetics and the role of education.
A public debate on communicating genetic information will also be held. This will involve presentations on several issues such as communicating genetic information, psychological research and legal aspects and will be followed by a discussion with the audience.
