7 Lipca 1998 - 7 Lipca 1998
Belgium
A European information meeting on Internet naming and addressing will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 7 July 1998. The information day will be organized by the European Commission, DG XIII and is open to all interested parties, in particular those who responded to the US Green Paper in February 1998.

Participants are likely to include the members of RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens) and its associated bodies, European-based registries and registrars, representatives of the electronics and telecommunications industries and all categories of the Internet user community.

The discussions will be held within the context of the US Government's White Paper which sets out the process for the future organization of the Internet naming and addressing system, including the creation of a new non-profit corporation, which would become the successor to the existing Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).

The event is intended to facilitate discussions in view of developing a consensus on European participation in the future new IANA corporation. Related aspects of the organization and management of the Internet naming and addressing system will also be discussed. This will aim to establish a European position before international consultations on the issue, which are likely to take place within the next few months, such as at the annual conference of the Internet Society (INET'98) which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 20 to 25 July 1998.
