Pitfalls in electronic copyright and digital licensing

An international conference and workshop on electronic copyright and digital licensing will be held in Rome, Italy, on 5 and 6 November 1998. The conference will be organised by the European Copyright User Platform (ECUP), the Italian Libraries Association (AIB) and the European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations (EBLIDA).

The aim of the event is to provide a forum for discussion on the latest legislative developments in copyright, both at European and international levels, with particular regard to the EU's draft Directive on copyright and the Copyright Treaty of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

The following topics will be covered in detail:

- Parliament and Council opinions on the draft Directive on copyright;
- Digital private copying: first conclusions from the European consultation process;
- Digital private copying and technical protection systems;
- EBLIDA and European fair practice in the copyright campaign;
- Implementation of the WIPO Copyright Treaty;
- Copyright versus licences;
- Analysis of an electronic subscription license;
- Cooperation between publishers and librarians.
