Preparing viable biotechnology business plans

A series of workshops for biotechnologists interested in learning about the management and financing of new companies is being organised with the aim of stimulating growth in biotechnology enterprise. The series is being supported by the European Commission, DG XII, within the Biotechnology research programme.

The initiative, BIOBIZ, will comprise a series of workshops organised by Amersham Pharmacia Biotech. These will aim to provide scientists with some of the tools and know-how needed to prepare a viable business plan. The workshops are specifically designed for potential entrepreneurs in the biotechnology sector, and applicants should be researchers with a start-up project in mind. Candidates will be selected preferentially on the basis of the maturity of their start-up plans.

The workshops will take place as follows:

- Amersham, United Kingdom, from 22 to 24 September 1998;
- Freiburg, Germany, from 29 September to 1 October 1998;
- Paris, France, from 13 to 15 September 1998;
- Uppsala, Sweden, from 27 to 29 October 1998;
- Roosendaal, The Netherlands, from 3 to 5 November 1998;
- Milan, Italy, from 10 to 13 November 1998;
- Barcelona, Spain, from 17 to 19 November 1998.
