The third international conference on engineering psychology and cognitive ergonomics will be held in Edinburgh, UK, from 25 to 27 October 2000.
The conference aims to describe recent advances in engineering psychology and cognitive ergonomics, bridging the gap between theory and the development of models of human performance and practitioners in the industrial sector, responsible for the design, development and testing of new equipment and working practices.
The conference should appeal to researchers and personnel from fields such as computer software, process control, training technology, telecommunications, nuclear power, medicine and transportation.
The conference organisers, from the Human Factors Group at the College of Aeronautics at Cranfield University, are calling for papers from cognitive psychologists with contributions to make in the development of theory, and recommendations to make concerning its practical application. Contributions from cognitive ergonomists are also invited.
The topics to be addressed include:

- - Human-Computer interaction;
- - Artificial intelligence and decision support;
- - Automation;
- - Training for skill acquisition and retention;
- - Techniques for the evaluation of human-machine systems;

- - Human performance modelling;
- - Mental workload and stress;
- - Situation awareness;
- - Human skilled performance;
- - Physiological correlates of performance.
Offers of workshops and tutorials are also invited.
