How can we create better cities?
The conference will focus on practical ways of involving businesses and other stakeholders in action to make cities more hospitable and sustainable. The outcome should help catalyse partnerships for the forthcoming United Nations review conferences Habitat + 5 and Rio + 10, say the conference organisers.
International leaders including Anna Tibaijuka (executive director, UNCHS Habitat), Klaus Töpfer (executive director, UNEP), Nitin Desai (under secretary general, UN, USA) and Max M. Ng'andwe (president of IULA) will take part, together with city and business leaders from many countries. The results of preparatory meetings in four continents will be included, together with varied presentations on solutions for achieving better cities, making this conference both a policy forum and a practical hands-on experience.
Another highlight will be the presentation of the Bremen partnership award for the five best business and municipality partnership projects.
