The first annual European energy and transport summit conference, 'A safer tomorrow,' will take place in Barcelona, Spain, on 18 and 19 October 2001.

The event, organised by the European Commission's Energy and Transport DG, will address transport safety and security.

A programme of discussions and presentations will tackle the following issues:
- Safer energy: efficient and renewable
- A secure and clean energy supply
- Ensuring safe nuclear energy
- Making our roads safer
- Prevention: the key to transport safety
- The intelligent systems approach to safety

The main aim of the conference is to promote effective use of the results of EU research and technology programmes and present national programme results. Recent legislative and regulatory initiatives in transport and energy and safety will also be presented.

The event will bring together key decision makers and innovators from the public and private sectors. The conclusions of the event will be discussed by a panel of key personalities who will integrate the conference findings into a coherent European framework for safe energy and transport. For further information, please contact:
