The third European Information Society Awareness Week (EISAW) will take place from 6-11 October 1997. The main goal of this year's Week will be to demonstrate the practical uses of new electronic information tools to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in all sectors of industry.

Events are scheduled to take place in over 25 locations across Europe. The possibilities and advantages offered by the Information Society will be shown through practical presentations and demonstrations of products, services and applications. There will also be hands-on sessions in which owners and employees of SMEs will be able to try new information and communications technologies for themselves. Special emphasis will be placed on the specific and varied needs of SMEs, taking into consideration local, regional and national diversities.

EISAW is organized by the Information Society Project Office (ISPO), in collaboration with the Euro Info Centre network of the European Commission (DG XXIII) and national, regional and local associations.
