Third European Marine Science and Technology Conference

The Third European Marine Science and Technology Conference will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 23 to 27 May 1998. Organized and sponsored by the European Commission, within the framework of the Community's specific RTD programmes in the fields of Marine Science and Technology (MAST), Agriculture and Fisheries (FAIR) and Environment and Climate, the event is intended to provide a forum for the exchange of information on, and the development of, marine research policy in Europe. It is co-sponsored by EUROMAR, the EUREKA initiative on marine technology, and by the European Board of Marine and Polar Science (EMaPS) of the European Science Foundation (ESF).

The conference will provide an overview of marine research carried out under the relevant European Community, EUROMAR and ESF programmes. Designed to improve interaction between policy makers, managers, engineers and researchers, the conference programme will cover the following main topics:

- Marine systems research;
- Coastal zone science and engineering;
- Instrumentation and technologies;
- Fisheries and aquaculture research;
- Marine research infrastructure;
- European marine research policy.

Sessions will include both reports on selected marine research topics and debates on major concepts in marine science and technology. A poster exhibition will present EU-funded and EUROMAR projects in the field.
