Requirements for hydrometallurgy

Chemical and physical characterization of feed material obtained from WP1, which consists of anode rich and cathode rich black mass, will be done. WP3 will specify the maximum purities required for hydrometallurgical process. Preliminary leaching test will be part of the characterization of feed material. The test results will be used as feedback in separation and grading process performed by WP1. This deliverable will be a result of Tasks 3.1 – 3.3.

Requirements for grading process

Development of grading processes for active material into high grade (as feed for direct recycling process) and low grade (as feed for hydrometallurgical process). The target of developed grading process as 40% of output material is classified as high grade. This deliverable will be a result of Tasks 1.2 – 1.6.

Requirements for direct recycling.

Direct recycling scheme from used battery active material will be developed, in which the target includes preservation of the active material structure. Optimization of the scheme will be based on the performance of active material produced, safety and commercial viability. This deliverable will be a result of Tasks 2.1 – 2.5.

Wastewater chemistry determined.

Psychochemical characterization of wastewater as feeds in water remediation and lithium extraction processes will be done. The characterization shall include metal concentration, COD, BOD, ammonia, phosphate and volatiles components among others. This deliverable will be a result of Task 4.1.

Definition use case

Determination of parameters that need to be achieved for project to be considered successful. This is specifically in relation to the quality and characteristics of input material in recycling process to make the recycling process close-looped. The final outputs will be identified to be benchmarked against initial definition. This deliverable will be a result of Task 1.1.

Plan for dissemination & exploitation-I

Plan for dissemination, exploitation and communication (PDEC), strategy, policy and KPIs will be agreed and recorded within PEDC. This deliverable will be a result of Tasks 6.1 – 6.6.
