The maintenance and user-support phase is the longest and most costly period is any large-scale software project. The only advantage lies in the fact, that the costs do not have to be financed in advance as it is the case with the development effort.
During the experiment, the GNATS software system for the administration of software errors will be implemented together with the appropriate procedures to improve the contact between end-users and support centers at different locations as well as the central support and development team.
The experiment is based upon the delivery of the new developed Version 5 of the PERMAS program, a general purpose Finite Element system developed in Germany and maintained and distributed in different European countries.
The goal is to reduce the cost for maintenance, improve the contact between end users, support groups and the development team and increase the quality of the maintenance and error management.
