Seismic Analysis of the Lithosphere Via Advanced processing techniques and access to Deep Ocean Recorders during Exploration

Final Report Summary - SALVADORE (Seismic Analysis of the Lithosphere Via Advanced processing techniques and access to Deep Ocean Recorders during Exploration)

The SALVADORE project aimed to perform seismic analysis of the lithosphere via advanced processing techniques and access to deep ocean recorders.

Thirty projects from various countries were granted and completed during SALVADORE elaboration time. Experimental equipment was installed in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, as well as in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea returning high-quality marine seismic data which were analysed, at a preliminary stage, as part of the ongoing research initiatives. The seismic processing focussed on prestack depth migration and applied the entire procedure to obtain final depth migrated images from raw data. Moreover, a detailed migration velocity analysis was performed to optimise imaging of the complex subsurface structures.

Transnational participation was more extensive than initially planned throughout the project activities, thanks to optimised economic resources' allocation. The proposed applications were evaluated and selected based on a peer review approach. The scientific quality and the need to perform experiments using the project facilities were the principal criteria for the final selection. Moreover, the training aspects of the alternative programmes were taken into account.

Information regarding SALVADORE was disseminated via the internet and numerous publications in scientific journals. Finally, promotional and explanatory documentation was distributed to the majority of potential end users.
