The objective of inSSIght was to support and complement R&I activities in Smart Systems Integration (SSI) by structuring industrial cooperation and facilitating end-user adoption for the next generations of miniaturised smart objects and systems.
Previous CSAs have revealed the immense breadth of SSI in its technology demands, its application sectors, its business ramifications, its provider and user communities, and have commenced the task of joining all these aspects for concerted action. They have also developed support tools, whose proven value can continue to be instrumental in the new CSA.
Building on the above and supporting the strategic activities of EPoSS, the role for inSSIght was to deepen and implant this understanding through a cadre of influential partners from SSI-related clusters, research institutes and industries who defined and encouraged actions to unlock and exploit innovation opportunities, provided practice-oriented support to the SSI ecosystem, underlined the vital position of SSI as a Key Enabling Technology for competitive advantage and future innovation, and gave credit to their enabling role as building blocks in sectors with high potential for growth and high return on investment, such as IoT, Industry 4.0 electric mobility, automated driving, smart medical devices etc. Special attention has been brought to the Micro-Nano-Bio sector, including the Health aspects, as it implies different value chains and more complex processes and pathways for market introduction, notably due to the strong regulation in this sector and the multiplicity of parties (users, beneficiaries, payers, regulators, procurers, prescribers).
inSSIght brought together a consortium of partners including
1) a “core group” of 10 partners with expertise from previous or on-going actions and able to capitalise on their results
2) an “industry board” of 8 leading SSI companies covering 7 priority application sectors and able to assure the link with the demand side as well as with the industrial strategies and initiatives for SSI such as ECSEL
3) 3 boards of associated partners (15 RTOs, 6 Clusters, 10 ETPs), guaranteeing a broad sectoral and vertical anchorage for retrieving emerging needs and requirements of end users, for aligning actions with research and educational priorities as well as for reach out and dissemination
inSSIght was organised along the following 6 action lines:

• Increase awareness on benefits and potentials of smart systems based solutions
• Organise demonstration workshops as showrooms to increase visibility of SSI
• Connect developers and users in selected sectors

• Provide communication & dissemination material
• Implement marketing strategy
6) Engage MNBS
• Plug in to each of above mentioned activities considering MNBS specificities
• Interface with other Health related EU initiatives
inSSIght has proven to be a successful project generating tangible results and positive impact by providing the SSI ecosystem with a set of tools and services such as the SSI Trademark, numerous showcases, webinars, and last but not least a White Paper including strategic recommendations covering the intersection of the views of target ecosystem stakeholders and how the relevant innovation factors should be addressed to unlock opportunities.
The success of inSSIght primarily relies on the outstanding contributions from its core and associated partners but beyond that on their ability to engage with key stakeholders in selected application areas.
