Functionality of the implants and ASIC as well as biocompatibility will be tested in freely moving animals.

Functional plasticity of speech using neurofeedback

This deliverable will describe whether and how inner speech production systems can use neurofeedback to reorganize and improve speech synthesis

Multiplexed surface conformal µECoG

Prototype and report of prototype assessment. The prototype will integrate the developed capabilities of multiplexing technology and the novel µECoG designs. The report will assess the device performance in terms of number of active sites, site dimension, electronic noise, and maximum sampling frequency.

Report on novel cortical µECoG and intracortical technologies

Report on the performance of non-multiplexed µECoG surface probes and intracortical devices based on graphene field-effect transistors and PEDOT:PSS organic-electrochemical transistors and electrodes. Benchmarking with competing technologies (metal electrode arrays).

System integration of first multiplexed neural interfaces with digital output

Discrete electronics, ASIC, data management and packaging developments to integrate the developed small area neural interfaces with frequency-domain multiple access (FDMA) multiplexing technique of up to 8x8 recording sites into electrophysiological recording systems. This first ASIC also includes the A/D conversion of all the multiplexed channels but not any digital post-processing oriented to data compression. This deliverable improves the initial description of D2.1 by introducing a novel continuous-time multiplexing capability, whose number of channels can be up-scaled in the subsequent deliverables.

System integration of scaled multiplexed neural interfaces with digital signal processing

Discrete electronics ASIC data management and packaging developments to integrate the developed large area neural interfaces with frequencydomain multiplexing FDM or timedomain multiplexing TDM of up to 32x32 1024 recording sites and digital postprocessing for data compression into electrophysiological recording systems This deliverable improves the initial description of D22 by scaling up the number of recording channels and by developing two candidate technologies for multiplexing in order to increase the possibility of success
