Centre of Excellence in Production Informatics and Control

Periodic Reporting for period 5 - EPIC (Centre of Excellence in Production Informatics and Control)

Okres sprawozdawczy: 2022-07-01 do 2024-09-30

The high-level goal of the project was to establish a leading-edge knowledge Centre of Excellence in Production Informatics and Control (EPIC CoE) with the mission - as a leading-edge knowledge centre of cyber-physical production systems - to accelerate innovation, realize industrial solutions, train new generations of highly qualified professionals and support the development of a sustainable and competitive European manufacturing ecosystem.
The main strategic objectives of EPIC CoE was to:
• Initiate and accelerate focused basic research excellence, and application-oriented development;
• Raise the scientific profile and soft skill base of staff and institutions involved in seven selected Priority Research Fields (PRF) and several Complementary Skills;
• Attract international talents and also enable industry talents to enter into academia and vice versa;
• Significantly improve technology transfer and industry innovation in Hungary;
• Intrinsically and sustainably impact on the development of education and training programs for engineers and researchers in the field of CPP;
• Develop and shape a regional CPPS ecosystem by stimulating and strengthening triple-helix (industry & regional clusters – academia & university - government) relationships;
• Promote and enable new international collaborations;
• Contribute to better public understanding of science and scientific literacy;
• Create new opportunities for Hungarian SMEs by facilitating their participation in research projects and thus develop their innovation capabilities;
• Launch cooperative, customer centered value creation processes.
• Recognized as an EC Success Story by the European Commission (and as such it is featured on the corresponding EC Platform), the EPIC project exemplifies excellence in collaboration and innovation.
• All project milestones have been successfully achieved, demonstrating our commitment to excellence.
• Deliverables have been submitted punctually, reflecting our dedication to meeting deadlines.
• We have initiated new projects (already started, e.g.: DiGreeS) that exemplify sustainable collaboration among consortium organizations.
• We successfully completed both complementary funding R&D projects, enhancing our research and technology transfer capabilities.
• Scientific KPIs were significantly surpassed, showcasing our research impact.
• The growth of EPIC Innolabs has exceeded planned expectations, underscoring our effective strategies. The implementation of a robust sales strategy has strengthened the self-sustainability of the Innolabs, with over 75% of costs covered by independent industrial income.
• We have made significant contributions through demonstrable results in two strategic Hungarian National Laboratories: the Artificial Intelligence National Laboratory and the National Lab for Autonomous Systems.
• Over 50 successful industrial projects have been executed, demonstrating our effective partnership with industry.
• Industry 4.0 concepts have been seamlessly integrated into university curricula, preparing future leaders.
• In collaboration, we further developed and implemented the pilot Cyber-Physical Production System network, introducing the 'Digital Assistance System as a Service' use-case in Hungary and Austria.
• Our EPIC LinkedIn page was regularly updated, boasting 457 followers, while we added 6 new videos to the EPIC YouTube Channel.
• We disseminated 69 press releases and 5 digital newsletters, enhancing our communication strategy.
These achievements not only underscore our commitment to excellence but also set the stage for continued innovation and collaboration in the future.
In the 5th period:
• A total of 73 thematic exchange and scientific/complementary skills training sessions have enriched the community.
• We published 74 works across journals, conferences, and industrial platforms.
• We organized or co-organized 28 thematic events, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• We developed 27 targeted training programs tailored to industry demands, supported by thorough market analysis.
