Renewable Energy Micro Power Plant Using Organic Waste as Fuel

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - MicroRenew (Renewable Energy Micro Power Plant Using Organic Waste as Fuel)

Okres sprawozdawczy: 2022-02-01 do 2023-01-31

SEaB Energy focuses on sustainability, circular economy, and efficient use of resources. The food supply chain produces grave amounts of organic waste material which requires managing. Traditional ways of dealing with such waste are not sustainable. Urbanisation and the increasing pressure on landfill sites are driving up the cost of waste management. Hauling waste from the point of production to centralised facilities adds cost and increases the carbon footprint of waste. The patented and multi-award winning FLEXIBUSTER™ is designed to turn food waste into energy right at the point where the waste is generated and the energy required.
The SEaB Energy team have completely overhauled the design of our Flexibuster product. Improvements include increased capacity, upgraded control system and user-interface, additional ‘bolt-on’ modules for greater adaptability, improved deign for accelerated and simplified site-installation, and product certification in multiple markets.
The SEaB Energy team produced excellent results for each of the project objectives. The system has benefited from vast improvements in manufacturability, functionality, capacity and delivery, which have been undertaken with an eye towards continuing to position the FLEXIBUSTER™ as a robust and economically viable solution for waste management.

FLEXIBUSTER has direct impact on at least 4 out of the 8 Green Deal goals:
1. Increasing the EU’s climate mitigation and adaptation ambition, by reducing CO2 emissions and methane emissions from rotting food on landfills and from transporting from its source to other sites.
2. Mobilising industry for a clean and circular economy, by recycling organic waste to create renewable energy, water and fertiliser.
3. Building and renovating in an energy and resource efficient way, by integrating FLEXIBUSTER™ units within new and existing buildings fostering reuse of organic waste created within the building.
4. Transitioning of industry to a clean economy (including waste prevention and/or recycling), by waste recycling and eliminating waste transportation and reducing local waste management, which has the indirect positive impact of savings on public waste management resources. It also contributes to Farm to Fork strategy, by reducing the environmental impact of the food processing and retail sectors by recycling food waste into valuable energy.

FLEXIBUSTER’s main achievement lies in saving resources on transportation of waste and generating valuable electricity, heat, fertiliser and water. If applied to full market potential, the total annual resource savings FLEXIBUSTER can generate has an approximate value of EUR 45.6 Bn.
