The results of the third call for proposals for projects under the cooperation programme between the EU and the USA in the field of higher education and vocational education and training have recently been released. A total of twelve new joint consortia projects (JCPs) have been selected for financing by the US Department of Education's Fund for the improvement of post-secondary education and by the European Commission, for a period of three years. The JCPs involve partnerships between education and training establishments and other relevant organisations on both sides of the Atlantic which undertake mutually beneficial joint projects. Each consortium involves at least three partners on each side, with organisations in a minimum of two EU Member States and two states of the USA. The projects selected are as follows: - Transatlantic business school alliance for the development of a common, international business curriculum; - Transatlantic academic student internship program for the establishment of a framework for transatlantic student mobility; - User response to innovative transportation and information technologies involving the organisation of two three-week intensive summer programmes; - A convergence teaching and training programme on earth imaging techniques and their applications, for the development of a convergent curriculum for students in the field of earth imaging; - Developing fast track articulation between vocational and higher education training programmes to enhance learning opportunities and access to higher education for vocational education students; - Comparative regional policy and development in an era of territorial integration for improving the knowledge base of regional development policy, building capacities to use distance technologies and strengthening capacities to use shared instructional resources; - Bridging the gap in undergraduate education by developing an international undergraduate certificate programme recognised by higher education and vocational institutions and industry; - Formation of the International Master of Science programme in aerospace engineering; - International architectural educational exchange; - Scholar and multimedia exchanges in environmental/water resources engineering and sciences featuring multimedia distance learning; - International network to enhance work-based learning for technical and skilled workers to establish a multinational, college-accredited model apprenticeship and training exchange for workers in high demand technological jobs.
