Commission modifies terms of membership for expert groups
The Commission Decision of 22 October 1998 setting up expert groups to monitor the content and orientation of the Key Actions under the Fifth Framework Programme has been amended. Members of the expert groups will now be appointed for a period of up to two years, renewable once only for a further period of two years. This is instead of the previous standard period of two years. It will allow the Commission to appoint members during the life of the groups. This Decision takes into account the Commission's aims to extend the range of geographical origins and improve the balance of scientific and technical qualifications through the appointment of new members. A further objective is to ensure the homogeneity of the expert groups and increase the openness and efficiency of their administration. Therefore the Commission has decided the mandates of new members should come to an end at the same time as those of other members previously appointed.
