Commission calls for expressions of interest for work related to functional genomics
As part of the implementation of its Quality of Life and management of living resources programme, which is part of the Fifth RTD Framework programme, the European Commission has announced a call for expressions of interest for topics throughout the field of functional genomics relating to human health. These include computational genomics, comparative genomics and proteomics. Topics should exploit multi-disciplinary approaches and advance the development and application of new methods and technologies. The expressions of interest should enable the European Commission to select topics of strategic importance that may be suitable for support through the mechanism of an integrated project. The Commission reserves the right to modify, merge or subdivide the topics submitted. A dedicated open call for proposals for integrated projects on no more than five topics will be published in the Official Journal of the European Communities. Only up to three integrated projects might be granted a Community contribution. Each integrated project will cluster within it a number of RTD projects, coordination projects (concerted actions, and/or thematic networks) and host training fellowships, under a common integrated management structure. The RTD projects should perform groundbreaking research. The coordination projects are intended to act as a federating force within the field, creating synergy with and between national programmes. The host fellowships should provide opportunities for training young researchers at Europe's top centres in the field, both in academia and in industry. The objectives referred to in this call notice correspond to those described in the quality of life and management of living resources work programme (in RTD activities of a generic nature area 8.5). The call relates to expressions of interest called by a fixed deadline, following which evaluation will take place. Expressions of interest not having met this deadline will not be considered under this call notice.
