TESS - Telematics in Social Security
The European Commission has adopted a proposal aimed at strengthening the legal basis of the TESS (Telematics in Social Security) programme established to facilitate the flow of information between national institutions through the use of telematic services. This Community programme, part of the Interchange of Data between Administrations programme, aims to ease the difficulties experienced by Europeans who move from country to country in overcoming bureaucracies, and obtaining the social security benefits to which they are entitled. The present proposal will notably amend the existing regulations (Regulations EEC No 1408/71 and No 574/72 on the application of social security schemes to employed persons, to self-employed persons and to members of their families moving with the Community) in this area to allow students studying in another Member State to obtain medical treatment, in their place of residence of stay, for all states of health requiring treatment and not just in urgent cases as in the past.
