Digital culture for a knowledge-based society
Aiming at establishing a dynamic knowledge cultural society, this project employed latest ICT technology and created a set of concepts, systems and tools for knowledge publishing. They developed a knowledge model of inter-textual studies, a standardised hypermedia document model and a prototype multimedia-authoring tool for use in the publishing life cycle. With the aid of the prototype multimedia-authoring tool, actual showcases of knowledge enhanced "Intertextual Cultural Threads" have been created. More specifically, the showcases may enable researchers to efficiently and easily work with multimedia entities such as music, video and text. In addition, they are expected to allow teachers to demonstrate the interrelationships of these entities in a wide range of fields. For instance, cognitive concepts of European capitals and meta-communication through contemporary music have been developed for cultural studies. Another example is the development of tourism sites related to European tradition for preservation of European heritages. In the case of literature, Yiddish poems have been used for identifying the internal and external relations. Finally, various advertisements have been employed for analysing the relevant psychological theories for marketing studies. Exploitation of results has already been initiated including the development of advanced digital libraries holding semantically rich and media-rich knowledge threads. Co-operations involve the GWG (Gesellschaft fur wissenschaftliche Gerichtspsychologie in Munich) for supplying real cases from law-courts. Other collaborating organisations include SR, Mercatis, i-views, Klett, and TAU for constructing software suitable for providing legal expertise and psychological evaluation as well as teaching. Negotiations are also being realised with a documentation centre in Geneva, responsible by the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Populations (doCip) about using the CULTOS software for intended UN documentation. Various types of collaborations are sought, in particular concerning specific input about common EU laws from the relevant bodies.
