New movie starring: you!!
The EC-funded MUVII project set out to develop new ways through which spectators could be "involved in the spectacle." In other words, the aim was to create haptic feedback devices thus incorporating the feature of interaction at the man-machine interface. The appeal of this interactive approach is multifaceted, as studies have already shown. The Immersive Theatre Device (ITD) allows the user to "immerse" him/herself in a virtual world and carry out direct actions (such as grasping an object) without intermediary steps. Using the new technology allows for more freedom of use and autonomy to the users, who are not limited in any way in terms of hand movements. The haptic feedback system developed within the framework of the MUVII is unique in many ways. Unlike other systems available, the MUVII haptic system incorporates surface detail information and not just a single feedback vector (directional) force. The added feature leads to a direct physical involvement into the content, changing the status of the visitor from a mere viewer to a participant. This innovative approach could signal a true revolution in the entertainment pushing the boundaries further than ever before. The market for such devices counts in the billions of EUR and interested parties are sought, with the ability to further this project and bring it to fruition.
